During Sam's first appearance the Daily Record called her a "blonde beauty." A year later they said "We know we're supposed to feel sorry for people who are ill, but can somebody just tell Dan's ex-wife Sam to get knotted?" The paper revealed that they had "high hopes" that Sam was gone for good, but she had turned up again "like the proverbial bad penny."
