Salt Rock

Salt Rock is a small town just north of Ballito and Shaka's Rock on the Dolphin Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is a favorite holiday destination for many local South Africans. It is about 40 minutes north of Durban. There are plenty of fishing spots along the coast from Salt Rock, through Shaka's Rock to Ballito and Salmon bay. Salt Rock owes much of its history to Basil Hulett and his wife Gwen who started not only the Salt Rock Hotel but went on to develop the town of Salt Rock that is found today. Nightlife in the small town is still an attraction with bars, pubs and restaurants offering a variety of food and drinks.

As well as providing some good fishing spots and there are beautiful reefs offshore. The main beach has lifeguards and is shark protected. Close to the main beach is a massive tidal pool, which was originally built for guests staying at the hotel.

Famous quotes containing the words salt and/or rock:

But we are spirits of another sort.
I with the morning’s love have oft made sport,
And like a forester the groves may tread
Even till the eastern gate, all fiery-red,
Opening on Neptune with fair blessèd beams,
Turns unto yellow gold his salt green streams.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

Margaret: Some people have life made for them.
Frank: That’s right, Mrs. Hammond, and some people make it for themselves. It’s about time you took that ton of rock off your shoulders.
    David Storey (b. 1933)
