Personal Life
Mewalal was born on 1 July 1926 at Daulatapur in Chitarghati Panchayat of Nawadah District erstwhile Gaya District in Bihar. He spent his earlier days playing football at village Daulatpur in the Khuri river flowing next to his village.He spent hours playing with hard seed of tree called tar. As a child only he shifted to Kolkata with his father who was an employee at the Fort William. who spent the rest of his life in Kolkata and worked with the railways . At the age of 18 he married Laxmi Devi Lal and had three children Kishan Lal and Gauri Devi and one more daughter . At the age of 60 his bad luck started after his daughter in law 's death. In 2008 he suffered from pneumonia & his grandson Vivek Lal took him to SSKM Hospital Kolkata. His admission to the Hospital refused first but his local area counselor Mr Faiyaz Ahmed Khan helped him to get his admission.The Olympian footballer Mr Mewalal Sahu died on 27 December 2008.
