The Safire Theatre complex was India's first multi-theatre complex located in the southern city of Chennai that functioned from 1964 to the mid-1990s. The complex consisted of three theatres, namely, Safire, Blue Diamond, and Emerald. While the largest named Sapphire screened Hollywood movies, the others, Emerald and Diamond screened Indian films. The complex was demolished recently after being acquired by local All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political organization.

Famous quotes containing the words safire, theatre and/or complex:
“More than illness or death, the American journalist fears standing alone against the whim of his owners or the prejudices of his audience. Deprive William Safire of the insignia of the New York Times, and he would have a hard time selling his truths to a weekly broadsheet in suburban Duluth.”
—Lewis H. Lapham (b. 1935)
“... in the happy laughter of a theatre audience one can get the most immediate and numerically impressive guarantee that there is nothing in ones mind which is not familiar to the mass of persons living at the time.”
—Rebecca West (18921983)
“I have met charming people, lots who would be charming if they hadnt got a complex about the British and everyone has pleasant and cheerful manners and I like most of the American voices. On the other hand I dont believe they have any God and their hats are frightful. On balance I prefer the Arabs.”
—Freya Stark (18931993)
