Safety Town

Safety Town is a two-week program for preschool children (usually ages five or six years old) that teaches safety lessons about fire, pedestrians/traffic, water, guns, strangers and poisons/drugs. Some communities offer programs for older children. Safety Town programs that have been accredited by the National Safety Town Center in Cleveland, Ohio are offered throughout the United States.

Safety Town is also often the name given to an area, typically smaller in scale, that represents a replica town created to instruct children about safety measures.

Original Safety Town is used here to distinguish between the program that existed between 1937 and 1964 concentrating on pedestrian safety and the more comprehensive program that exists today.

Famous quotes containing the words safety and/or town:

He had a gentleman-like frankness in his behaviour, and as a great point of honour as a minister can have, especially a minister at the head of the treasury, where numberless sturdy and insatiable beggars of condition apply, who cannot all be gratified, nor all with safety be refused.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

Americans living in Latin American countries are often more snobbish than the Latins themselves. The typical American has quite a bit of money by Latin American standards, and he rarely sees a countryman who doesn’t. An American businessman who would think nothing of being seen in a sport shirt on the streets of his home town will be shocked and offended at a suggestion that he appear in Rio de Janeiro, for instance, in anything but a coat and tie.
    Hunter S. Thompson (b. 1939)
