On 4 October 2001 during a military exercise, a Ukrainian S-200 battery may have accidentally shot down a Tu-154 airliner en route from Tel Aviv, Israel to Novosibirsk, Siberia, killing all 78 people on board (see Siberia Airlines Flight 1812 accident).
