Unification With VTB United League
In May 2012, after CSKA Moscow won the Championships at the 43 time, all the PBL clubs was gathering to decide which format will be use for the next season, and some Club's Directors rise possibility to unite with the VTB United League to challenge and produce greater competition between the Russian basketball clubs. They offered that the new league would be named the Eastern European Professional Basketball League.
In July 2012 the Council of VTB United League gave definitive decision. It is considered, that a champion of the PBL championships will be determined after two leg-contest, which will consider 90 games and 58 of them will happen in the frames of the PBL, the other 32 will be counted for both championships. Therefore all the Russian teams will play each other twice, not depending on the VTB League group stage draw.
