In the early 1990s, many Jews chose to immigrate to Israel because the United States changed its policy of treating Soviet Jews as refugees at request from American Zionist pro-Israel Lobby and allowing limited immigration, whereas Israel was willing to receive them unconditionally. Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of medicine is the history of the unusual.
Robert M. Fresco, and Jack Arnold. Prof. Gerald Deemer (Leo G. Carroll)

All history attests that man has subjected woman to his will, used her as a means to promote his selfish gratification, to minister to his sensual pleasures, to be instrumental in promoting his comfort; but never has he desired to elevate her to that rank she was created to fill. He has done all he could to debase and enslave her mind; and now he looks triumphantly on the ruin he has wrought, and say, the being he has thus deeply injured is his inferior.
    Sarah M. Grimke (1792–1873)

Boys forget what their country means by just reading “the land of the free” in history books. Then they get to be men, they forget even more. Liberty’s too precious a thing to be buried in books.
    Sidney Buchman (1902–1975)
