The Russian Ecological Party "The Greens" (Russian: Российская экологическая партия «Зеленые», Rossiiskaya ekologicheskaya partiya "Zelyonyye") was a green political party in the Russian Federation. It was founded in 1992 as the Constructive Ecological Party "KEDR". In 2002 the party was transformed into the Russian Ecological Party "The Greens".
In the 2007 Russian regional elections "The Greens" gained 7.58% of the votes in the Samara Oblast, and it therefore has Deputies in the Samara Regional Duma.
Before the 2007 parliamentary elections, the Russian Central Electoral Commission decided that the Russian Ecological Party "The Greens" would not be able to stand, due to an alleged large number of faked signatures (17%, more than the allowed 5%) in their supporters' lists.
In 2008 the XV congress of the party decided to transform the party into the social movement Russian Ecological Movement "Greens" (Российское экологическое движение «Зеленые»). It advised all members and supporters of the party to join A Just Russia.

Famous quotes containing the words russian, ecological, party and/or greens:
“From being a patriotic myth, the Russian people have become an awful reality.”
—Leon Trotsky (18791940)
“Could it not be that just at the moment masculinity has brought us to the brink of nuclear destruction or ecological suicide, women are beginning to rise in response to the Mothers call to save her planet and create instead the next stage of evolution? Can our revolution mean anything else than the reversion of social and economic control to Her representatives among Womankind, and the resumption of Her worship on the face of the Earth? Do we dare demand less?”
—Jane Alpert (b. 1947)
“In inner-party politics, these methods lead, as we shall yet see, to this: the party organization substitutes itself for the party, the central committee substitutes itself for the organization, and, finally, a dictator substitutes himself for the central committee.”
—Leon Trotsky (18791940)
“Our democracy, our culture, our whole way of life is a spectacular triumph of the blah. Why not have a political convention without politics to nominate a leader whos out in front of nobody?... Maybe our national mindlessness is the very thing that keeps us from turning into one of those smelly European countries full of pseudo-reds and crypto-fascists and greens who dress like forest elves.”
