The Ruidoso Osos were an independent professional baseball team in the Pecos League during the 2011 season. The team is on hiatus for the 2012 season because of low attendance with the addition of no lights, meaning games were played at 4:30 p.m., and the fact that alcohol could not be sold at White Mountain Park because it was owned by Ruidoso Municipal Schools. However, the Pecos League says its on website that the Osos may be back for the 2013 season.

Famous quotes containing the word sports:

    Sweet smiling village, loveliest of the lawn,
    Thy sports are fled and all thy charms withdrawn;
    Amidst thy bowers the tyrant’s hand is seen,
    And desolation saddens all thy green;
    One only master grasps the whole domain,
    And half a tillage stints thy smiling plain;
    Oliver Goldsmith (1730?–1774)

    There be some sports are painful, and their labor
    Delight in them sets off. Some kinds of baseness
    Are nobly undergone, and most poor matters
    Point to rich ends.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    It was so hard to pry this door open, and if I mess up I know the people behind me are going to have it that much harder. Because then there’s living proof. They can sit around and say, “See? It doesn’t work.” I don’t want to be their living proof.
    Gayle Gardner, U.S. sports reporter. As quoted in Sports Illustrated, p. 87 (June 17, 1991)
