Ruffin Drew Fletcher House - Historic Significance

Historic Significance

The Fletcher House maintains its 1890s architectural integrity. On a local level, the earliest changes to the house, such as the installation of electric fans, illustrates the life style of the upper middle class in Streator, Illinois. The Ruffin Drew Fletcher House was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 5, 1991. Both outbuildings were included as contributing properties in the National Register listing.

Famous quotes containing the words historic and/or significance:

The first farmer was the first man, and all historic nobility rests on possession and use of land.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

For a parent, it’s hard to recognize the significance of your work when you’re immersed in the mundane details. Few of us, as we run the bath water or spread the peanut butter on the bread, proclaim proudly, “I’m making my contribution to the future of the planet.” But with the exception of global hunger, few jobs in the world of paychecks and promotions compare in significance to the job of parent.
    Joyce Maynard (20th century)
