2012 Mid-year Rugby Test Series
Pienaar was selected for all three matches against England. South Africa won the first game 22-17 and the second game 36-27. They drew the last game 14-14. Pienaar was on the bench for all the games because Francois Hougaard was preferred to him in the starting line up. Pienaar made his first start of the year for South Africa against Australia and has started at scrumhalf since then.
