History
Royal Khmer Airlines was founded in 2000 and originally planned to launch revenue flights in 2001, which did not materialize, though. In October 2003, Asia Aircraft Services from Malaysia opted to buy the airline and use its operating permit to launch services.
Finally, Royal Khmer Airlines acquired an aging Boeing 737-200, which was put in service on 15 May 2004, and subsequently started scheduled passenger operations. These services proved to be unreliable and during much of 2005, the airline was inoperative.
In March 2006, Royal Khmer Airlines came under criticism from the South Korean Ministry of Construction and Transportation due to substandard safety measures, including inoperative emergency exits, outdated guidebooks, and its aircraft having loaded engine oil together with passengers baggage without proper safety measures. In November 2011, the airline was shut down.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“The history of our era is the nauseating and repulsive history of the crucifixion of the procreative body for the glorification of the spirit.”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
“A great proportion of the inhabitants of the Cape are always thus abroad about their teaming on some ocean highway or other, and the history of one of their ordinary trips would cast the Argonautic expedition into the shade.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“One classic American landscape haunts all of American literature. It is a picture of Eden, perceived at the instant of history when corruption has just begun to set in. The serpent has shown his scaly head in the undergrowth. The apple gleams on the tree. The old drama of the Fall is ready to start all over again.”
—Jonathan Raban (b. 1942)
