History
In 1969, poet and artist José Montoya came to Sacramento as a fellowship recipient in the Mexican American Education Project at CSU Sacramento. He was there to undertake a Master's degree program. Along with the first-year art faculty member and Jose's compadre from art school, Esteban Villa, they joined with some of the talented Mexican American students to further the aims of the Chicano Movement. The Rebel Chicano Art Front (RCAF) was founded to foster support for César Chávez and the United Farm Workers in the heavily-agricultural Sacramento-Davis area. One day when someone asked if the RCAF meant the "Royal Canadian Air Force", one of the artists responded, "No, it means the Royal Chicano Air Force! From that point on, the artists used the "Air Force" motif in their artworks, programs, and activities.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“I think that Richard Nixon will go down in history as a true folk hero, who struck a vital blow to the whole diseased concept of the revered image and gave the American virtue of irreverence and skepticism back to the people.”
—William Burroughs (b. 1914)
“I am ashamed to see what a shallow village tale our so-called History is. How many times must we say Rome, and Paris, and Constantinople! What does Rome know of rat and lizard? What are Olympiads and Consulates to these neighboring systems of being? Nay, what food or experience or succor have they for the Esquimaux seal-hunter, or the Kanaka in his canoe, for the fisherman, the stevedore, the porter?”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“It takes a great deal of history to produce a little literature.”
—Henry James (18431916)
