Roy Schmidt was a Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives. He represents the 76th district which is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was first elected to the State House in 2008 as a Democrat and changed parties 10 minutes before the filing deadline on May 15, 2012. He lost in the November 2012 election. Schmidt is currently under investigation by the Michigan State Police for potential voter fraud as a result of his last minute party change and the circumstances behind it.
Schmidt has a bachelors degree in business administration from Aquinas College. He and his wife Donna are the parents of three children.
Schmidt is a Roman Catholic.
