The Round Pond is an ornamental lake in Kensington Gardens, London, in front of Kensington Palace.

The pond was created in 1730 by George II. It is approximately seven acres in extent, measuring approximately 200 m by 150 m. It is up to 5 m deep. Despite its name, it is not circular, but rectangular with stepped and rounded corners. With a long history of popularity with model yacht enthusiasts, it is the home of the Model Yacht Sailing Association (established 1876) and the London Model Yacht Club (established 1884).

Famous quotes containing the word pond:

There have been many stories told about the bottom, or rather no bottom, of this pond, which certainly had no foundation for themselves. It is remarkable how long men will believe in the bottomlessness of a pond without taking the trouble to sound it.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
