Legacy

Whyte's archives and papers are in the collection of the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library of Yale University. His library of 5,000 drama and theatre books was donated after his death primarily to The New School's library in New York City, as well as several hundred items to the Esther Raushenbush Library at Sarah Lawrence College. Several hundred non-theater-related items from Whyte's collection are held by the General Research Division of the New York Public Library in New York City. The manuscript of The Story of Film is held by the Smithsonian Archives of American Art of the Smithsonian Institution in New York City in its Gregory Battcock Papers ("Gregory Battcock."
