Roman Catholic Theology - Soteriology

Soteriology

Soteriology is the branch of Christian doctrinal theology that deals with salvation through Jesus Christ. Some Christians believe salvation is a gift by means of the unmerited grace of God. All Catholics believe that, through faith in Jesus, one can be saved from sin and eternal death. The crucifixion of Jesus is explained as an atoning sacrifice, which, in the words of the Gospel of John, "takes away the sins of the world." One's reception of salvation is related to justification.
