Roman Catholic Diocese Of Kerry

The Diocese of Kerry (Irish: Deoise Chiarraí) is a Roman Catholic diocese in south-western Ireland. It is one of six suffragan dioceses in the ecclesiastical province of Cashel (also known as Munster) and is subject to the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly. The diocese is in the secular province of the same name - Munster.

Until Thursday, May 2, 2013, the Ordinary was William Murphy. Pope Francis accepted his resignation in accordance with Canon 401.1 of the Latin-rite Code of Canon Law, and named the Reverend Raymond Browne, a priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Elphin, Ireland, until now a Pastor at Ballagh, in Roscommon, Ireland, as Bishop-elect of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kerry.

The diocese was established in the early 12th century as the "Diocese of Ardfert and Aghadoe". It changed its name to the "Diocese of Kerry" on 20 December 1952.

Famous quotes containing the words roman catholic, roman, catholic and/or kerry:

    It is a dogma of the Roman Church that the existence of God can be proved by natural reason. Now this dogma would make it impossible for me to be a Roman Catholic. If I thought of God as another being like myself, outside myself, only infinitely more powerful, then I would regard it as my duty to defy him.
    Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889–1951)

    The most Christian France is the sole wet-nurse to the Roman court.
    François Rabelais (1494–1553)

    A vegetarian is not a person who lives on vegetables, any more than a Catholic is a person who lives on cats.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

    He’d gone to great expense
    Keeping all the Kerry men
    Out of that crazy fight;
    That he might be there himself
    Had travelled half the night.
    How goes the weather?
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
