Rocks State Park
The Rocks State Park, originally known as Deer Creek State Park, is a state park located in Deer Creek Valley near Pylesville in Harford County, Maryland. The park, located near the junction of Maryland Routes 24 and 165 is near the Mason-Dixon Line, and about a one-hour drive from Baltimore. Until 1958, Rocks State Park was served by the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad at milepost 35.5.
The park has three noncontiguous sections in the Deer Creek Valley. The largest section, home to the park headquarters, is located along Rocks Ridge and is home to the King and Queen's Seat rock formation, a 190 feet (58 m) rock outcropping that towers above the banks of Deer Creek. The Falling Branch area is a 67 acres (0.27 km2) tract of land located 5 miles (8.0 km) north of the Rock Ridge section, along the Falling Branch tributary of Deer Creek and is home to Kilgore Falls, the second highest waterfall in Maryland. The Hidden Valley section, located 5 miles (8.0 km) to the west of the Falling Creek area is a undeveloped area along the banks of Deer Creek, primarily used for fishing.
Both the King and Queen's seat and Kilgore Falls were featured in the movie Tuck Everlasting.
Also located in the Deer Creek Valley, about a mile from The Rocks State Park is Eden Mill Nature Center.
