Rochester railway station serves the former town of Rochester in Medway, South East England. It lies on the Chatham Main Line. The majority of train services are provided by Southeastern, with a handful of peak services to and from Bedford operated by First Capital Connect.
The station is located approximately 110 yards (100 m) to the north of Rochester High Street, a short distance to the east of Star Hill. It has four platforms, based on two islands. The tracks are elevated and accessed from a tunnel beneath the islands via stairways or via lifts for disabled access.

Famous quotes containing the words rochester, railway and/or station:
“The clog of all pleasure, the luggage of life,
Is the best can be said for a very good wife.”
—John Wilmot, Earl Of Rochester (16471680)
“Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understandmy mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arms length.”
—Angela Carter (19401992)
“I introduced her to Elena, and in that life-quickening atmosphere of a big railway station where everything is something trembling on the brink of something else, thus to be clutched and cherished, the exchange of a few words was enough to enable two totally dissimilar women to start calling each other by their pet names the very next time they met.”
—Vladimir Nabokov (18991977)
