Public Opinion Surveys

According to a survey of 17,400 vehicle owners conducted by J.D. Power and Associates, 37 percent of all survey responders initially said they would be interested in purchasing a fully autonomous car. However, that figure dropped to 20 percent once they learned the technology would cost an additional $3,000. With an additional cost of $3,000, 25% of the male vehicle buyers were willing to pay for a fully autonomous vehicle, while only 14 percent of women wanted the feature. According to a 2011 online survey of 2,006 consumers in the US and the UK conducted by Accenture, 49 percent of all survey responders said they would be comfortable using a "driverless car".

Famous quotes containing the words public opinion, public, opinion and/or surveys:

Public opinion, a vulgar, impertinent, anonymous tyrant who deliberately makes life unpleasant for anyone who is not content to be the average man.
    —W.R. (William Ralph)

Well of all things in the world, I don’t suppose anything can be so dreadful as a public wedding—my stars!—I should never be able to support it!
    Frances Burney (1752–1840)

Let a man learn to look for the permanent in the mutable and fleeting; let him learn to bear the disappearance of things he was wont to reverence; without losing his reverence; let him learn that he is here, not to work, but to be worked upon; and that, though abyss open under abyss, and opinion displace opinion, all are at last contained in the Eternal Cause.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The camera relieves us of the burden of memory. It surveys us like God, and it surveys for us. Yet no other god has been so cynical, for the camera records in order to forget.
    John Berger (b. 1926)
