Athletics
Robert Morris–Illinois teams, nicknamed athletically as the Eagles, are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). Men's sports include baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer and volleyball; while women's sports include basketball, bowling, cheerleading, cross country, dance, field hockey, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field and volleyball.
Its sister branch campuses RMU–Springfield, RMU–Lake County, and RMU–Peoria are members of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
- Men's Basketball is one of the dominant programs in the NAIA, having reached the Final Four of the NAIA tournament three times in the last five years. Othyus Jeffers of the Washington Wizards played for Robert Morris in 2009. Head Coach Al Bruehl has averaged thirty wins a season during that time and has never won fewer than 25 games in his nine years at the helm of the Eagles.
- Women's Basketball team at the Springfield, Illinois campus, under the direction of first year head coach Matt Mead, is currently ranked number 1 nationally by the USCAA.
- Men's Ice Hockey under the guidance of Head Coach Tom "Chico" Adrahtas (CSCHL Coach-of-the-Year 2010-11), plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association at the Division I level in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League. The teams all practice/play at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Illinois. In addition, RMU fields teams in Chicago at the ACHA Division II and ACHA Division III levels as independent teams. RMU–Springfield and RMU–Peoria field teams at the ACHA Division III and play in the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association.
- Women's Ice Hockey plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association at the Division I level. The Lady Eagles play at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Illinois. The team plays roughly a 35-game schedule against ACHA Women's competition as well as exhibition games against a number of Canadian Interuniversity Sport opponents. Beginning in the 2010-11 season the team will join the Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association. The team won Women's ACHA Division I National Championships in 2005 and 2007 and were runners-up in 2006, 2008, and 2009.
- Women's Softball has had much success at RMU–Springfield winning the USCAA National Championship in 2006 and 2010, receiving third place in 2007, and second place in 2008 and 2009.
- Men's Football begins NAIA intercollegiate play in 2011. They will play at the old Forest View High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois
