Robert A. Schwartz

Robert A. Schwartz (born June 30, 1947) is an American physician and the discoverer of the Schwartz-Burgess Syndrome. He is a professor and the Head of the Department of Dermatology at New Jersey Medical School. He has published more than 50 full articles on Kaposi’s Sarcoma since 1978, including one of the first three reports of KS-AIDS in 1981 and was first to describe many Kaposi's sarcoma morphologic variants. In 1978 he was the discoverer of florid cutaneous papillomatosis. In 1981 he discovered and described Acral acanthosis nigricans. The 2nd edition of his book, Skin Cancer: Recognition and Management, has been published by Blackwell Publishing. He has also written or edited 10 monographs, and is the author of over 250 book chapters, 450 articles, and 130 other publications.
