Roads in Prince Edward Island - Primary Highways

Primary Highways

Prince Edward Island does not have any expressways, freeways or four-lane divided highways. The only section of highway in the province which is controlled access is a small part of the two-lane Charlottetown Arterial Highway, which is used by Routes 1 and 2. Maximum speed limit is typically 90 km/h (55 mph).

  • Route 1 - Trans-Canada Highway -- Confederation Bridge at Borden-Carleton - Cornwall - Charlottetown - Stratford - Northumberland Ferries ferry terminal at Wood Islands
  • Route 1A -- Route 1 interchange at Albany - Central Bedeque - Travellers Rest (northeast of Summerside)
  • Route 2 - Veterans Memorial Highway -- Tignish - Summerside - Kensington -West Royalty (northwestern Charlottetown) - Morell - Souris
  • Route 3 -- Cherry Valley - Pooles Corner - Georgetown
  • Route 4 -- Montague - Pooles Corner - Dingwells Mills (note that this is only a portion of Route 4 - the remainder is designated a secondary highway)

Famous quotes containing the words primary and/or highways:

If a madman were to come into this room with a stick in his hand, no doubt we should pity the state of his mind; but our primary consideration would be to take care of ourselves. We should knock him down first, and pity him afterwards.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

That is the land of lost content
    I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
    And cannot come again.
    —A.E. (Alfred Edward)
