Riverside Municipal Airport

Riverside Municipal Airport (IATA: RAL, ICAO: KRAL, FAA LID: RAL), also known as Riverside Airport (and formerly as Riverside Arlington Airport), is a public airport located four miles (6 km) southwest of the central business district of Riverside, the county seat of Riverside County, California, United States. The airport is located in the Inland Empire, a region with a population of over four million people.

Scheduled service to Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport (Arizona) on Western Express Air was discontinued when that airline ceased operations at the end of May 2007.

Riverside also had scheduled passenger airline service during the 1960s flown by Bonanza Air Lines and its successor Air West. Both airlines operated Fairchild F-27 twin turboprop aircraft on nonstop flights to Las Vegas and Los Angeles with direct, no change of plane service to Phoenix and Tucson. In addition, Golden West Airlines served Riverside during the 1970s with nonstop and direct flights to Los Angeles which were operated with de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter turboprop aircraft.

Riverside Municipal Airport has been the home to Civil Air Patrol Squadron 5 since 2005.

"FedEx Express has donated a Boeing 727-200F to California Baptist University for use by its new aviation science program. The aircraft will be on permanent display at the airport and will provide a working laboratory for aviation science students." The aircraft, N266FE (cn 21672/1538), is a Boeing 727-233/Adv(F). A video of its arrival on January 10, 2013 can be found here.

The airport's control tower, staffed by air traffic controllers contracted by the FAA, is scheduled to close on April 7, 2013 due to the sequestration effects of the Budget Control Act of 2011.
