Riverside Brookfield High School

Riverside Brookfield High School is a secondary school located in Riverside which educates grades 9-12. It serves the towns of Riverside, Brookfield, LaGrange Park, North Riverside and Broadview . The mascot of Riverside Brookfield (RB) is Rouser the Bulldog. Riverside Brookfield Township High School District 208 recently passed a $58 million referendum resulting in renovations to the school building, including a new swimming pool, athletics stadium, and classrooms, which was completed in the spring of 2010. In 2011, it failed to pass a second referendum, an event which led to the dismissal of several teachers and the essential dismantling of extracurricular activities, such as clubs and, notably, the theater department.

Famous quotes containing the words high school, riverside, high and/or school:

When I was in high school I thought a vocation was a particular calling. Here’s a voice: “Come, follow me.” My idea of a calling now is not: “Come.” It’s like what I’m doing right now, not what I’m going to be. Life is a calling.
    Rebecca Sweeney (b. 1938)

    Upset at the young wife’s
    first loss of virtue
    in a riverside thicket,
    a flock of birds
    flies up,
    mourning the loss
    with their wings.
    Hla Stavhana (c. 50 A.D.)

    There, do not start,
    child, nor toss about;
    only calm and high pride
    can help your hurt:
    fate tries all alike.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)

The first rule of education for me was discipline. Discipline is the keynote to learning. Discipline has been the great factor in my life. I discipline myself to do everything—getting up in the morning, walking, dancing, exercise. If you won’t have discipline, you won’t have a nation. We can’t have permissiveness. When someone comes in and says, “Oh, your room is so quiet,” I know I’ve been successful.
Rose Hoffman, U.S. public school third-grade teacher. As quoted in Working, book 8, by Studs Terkel (1973)
