River FM - Attempted Sale By Kingdom Group and Subsequent Closure

Attempted Sale By Kingdom Group and Subsequent Closure

In December 2006 the station went up for sale. The station is believed to have been unprofitable, and Kingdom Group's Board of Directors decision raised a big question over the station's future, and even its existence.

On Monday 29 January 2007, at 15:00 GMT, River FM went into automation, with live programming going out as normal up until this point. At 18:00 on the same day, River FM fell silent, the deadline Kingdom Group had set for a buyer being identified or the station being shut down. On Monday 29 January Kingdom FM had no offers from any other radio organisation and shut down at 6.00pm with the last song being Nelly Furtado " All things come to an end ". The radio presenters and staff did not know about the shutdown of the company until 5.00pm that same day just one hour before the station shut and handed their licence. Ofcom will give the license back to West Lothian and Edinburgh for a local station only covering only Edinburgh and the Lothians. Some presenters found employment elsewhere in a freelance capacity.

Famous quotes containing the words attempted, sale, kingdom, group and/or subsequent:

Many have attempted unnatural acts, but Nature has always shown the way.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

I hate this shallow Americanism which hopes to get rich by credit, to get knowledge by raps on midnight tables, to learn the economy of the mind by phrenology, or skill without study, or mastery without apprenticeship, or the sale of goods through pretending that they sell, or power through making believe you are powerful, or through a packed jury or caucus, bribery and “repeating” votes, or wealth by fraud.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Bible: New Testament Jesus, in Matthew, 6:9-13.

the Lord’s Prayer. In Luke 11:4, the words are “forgive us our sins; for we also forgive everyone that is indebted to us.” The Book of Common Prayer gives the most common usage, “forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us.”

With a group of bankers I always had the feeling that success was measured by the extent one gave nothing away.
Francis Aungier, Pakenham, 7th Earl Longford (b. 1905)

And he smiled a kind of sickly smile, and curled up on the floor, And the subsequent proceedings interested him no more.
    Francis Bret Harte (1836–1902)
