Fishing
The river was once frequented by salmon but their numbers have since declined. Brown trout are rife in the river, larger specimens can be caught in the narrower parts where the water runs deeper. Several 1 lb fish have been caught along with a record 4 lb brown trout which can be seen stuffed and mounted in the Talbot Hotel. Recently a two and a half pound fish was caught in the river. Many eels can also be found.

Famous quotes containing the word fishing:
“If fishing is a religion, fly fishing is high church.”
—Tom Brokaw (b. 1940)
“The hill farmer ... always seems to make out somehow with his corn patch, his few vegetables, his rifle, and fishing rod. This self-contained economy creates in the hillman a comparative disinterest in the worlds affairs, along with a disdain of lowland ways. I dont go to question the good Lord in his wisdom, runs the phrasing attributed to a typical mountaineer, but I jest caint see why He put valleys in between the hills.”
—Administration in the State of Arka, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“The only sure way of avoiding these evils [vanity and boasting] is never to speak of yourself at all. But when, historically, you are obliged to mention yourself, take care not to drop one single word that can directly or indirectly be construed as fishing for applause.”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (16941773)
