Writing System
Like other Berber languages, Riffian has been written with several different systems over the years.. Most recently (since 2003), Tifinagh has become official throughout Morocco. The Arabic script is not used anymore for writing Riffian Berber.. However, unlike the nearby Tashelhit (Shilha), Riffian Berber has little written literature before the twentieth century.

Famous quotes containing the words writing and/or system:
“He who should inspire and lead his race must be defended from travelling with the souls of other men, from living, breathing, reading and writing in the daily, time-worn yoke of their opinions.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Nobody is glad in the gladness of another, and our system is one of war, of an injurious superiority. Every child of the Saxon race is educated to wish to be first. It is our system; and a man comes to measure his greatness by the regrets, envies, and hatreds of his competitors.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
