Richard Dimbleby Cancer Fund

The Richard Dimbleby Cancer Fund is a charity founded in the memory of Richard Dimbleby, a British journalist and broadcaster, who died in 1965 aged only fifty two from testicular cancer. Before his funeral, his family requested well-wishers to make donations to the new fund rather than sending flowers. In particular, the charity funds cancer research at the Richard Dimbleby Laboratories at St Thomas' Hospital in London, which opened in 1968.

A separate fund, Dimbleby Cancer Care, was established in 2005 to support cancer patients and their families.

The truth is that Mozart, Pascal, Boolean algebra, Shakespeare, parliamentary government, baroque churches, Newton, the emancipation of women, Kant, Marx, and Balanchine ballets don’t redeem what this particular civilization has wrought upon the world. School success is not predicted by a child’s fund of facts or a precocious ability to read as much as by emotional and social measures; being self-assured and interested: knowing what kind of behavior is expected and how to rein in the impulse to misbehave; being able to wait, to follow directions, and to turn to teachers for help; and expressing needs while getting along with other children.
