In a 2000 interview, Blackwood claimed that if he had not made it in showbusiness he would have been "a graphic designer, designing buildings" (sic). In a 2001 interview on Channel 4's website, Blackwood claimed to be good friends with Virginia Bottomley.
He was banned from driving for one year in February 2010 for speeding.
