RTDs of Ideal and Real Reactors
The residence time distribution of a reactor can be used to compare its behavior to that of two ideal reactor models: the plug-flow reactor and the continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR), or mixed-flow reactor. This characteristic is important in order to calculate the performance of a reaction with known kinetics.

Famous quotes containing the words ideal and/or real:
“The ideal of the self-sufficient American family is a myth, dangerous because most families, especially affluent families, do in fact make use of a range of services to survive. Families needing one or another kind of help are not morally deficient; most families do need assistance at one time or another.”
—Joseph Featherstone (20th century)
“Is it not in the most absolute simplicity that real genius plies its pinions the most wonderfully?”
—E.T.A.W. (Ernst Theodor Amadeus Wilhelm)
