Commonwealth Membership
If New Zealand becomes a republic its Commonwealth membership is not affected. As of 2007, a Commonwealth realm that becomes a republic no longer needs to reapply for membership.

Famous quotes containing the words commonwealth and/or membership:
“Ithe commonwealth I would by contraries
Execute all things; for no kind of traffic
Would I admit; no name of magistrate;
Letters should not be known; riches, poverty,
And use of service, none; contract, succession,
Bourn, bound of land, tilth, vineyard, none;
No use of metal, corn, or wine, or oil;
No occupation; all men idle, all,
And women too, but innocent and pure.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“The two real political parties in America are the Winners and the Losers. The people dont acknowledge this. They claim membership in two imaginary parties, the Republicans and the Democrats, instead.”
—Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (b. 1922)
