Tell a man passionately in love, that he is jilted; bring a score of witnesses of the falsehood of his mistress, it is ten to one but three kind words of hers shall invalidate all their testimonies.
    John Locke (1632–1704)

Not to sink under being man and wife,
But get some color and music out of life?
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

All that a city will ever allow you is an angle on it—an oblique, indirect sample of what it contains, or what passes through it; a point of view.
    Peter Conrad (b. 1948)
