Reliability, Availability And Serviceability (computer Hardware)
Reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) is a computer hardware engineering term. The phrase was originally used by IBM as a term to describe the robustness of their mainframe computers. The concept is often known by the acronym RAS.
Computers designed with higher levels of RAS have a multitude of features that protect data integrity and help them stay available for long periods of time without failure — this data integrity and uptime is a particular selling point for mainframes and fault-tolerant systems.

Famous quotes containing the word availability:
“Since ... six weeks ago, there has been no day in which I have not had letters and visits on the subject of my nomination for the Presidency.... I say very little. I have in no instance encouraged any one to work to that end.... I have said the whole talk about me is on the score of availability. Let availability do the work then.”
