Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative - Climate Change Action Plan

Climate Change Action Plan

A parallel effort to reduce emissions in the Northeast is the New England Governors/Eastern Canadian Premiers Climate Change Action Plan, which calls for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to 10% below 1990 levels by 2020. For comparison: the EU aims to reduce emissions to 20% below 1990 levels by 2020 and is deliberating to increase this reduction aim to 30%.

In addition, the Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM) is building a Regional Greenhouse Gas Registry (RGGR) to help track emissions in the region. This effort is similar to that of the California Climate Action Registry.

Famous quotes containing the words climate, change, action and/or plan:

    Nobody is so constituted as to be able to live everywhere and anywhere; and he who has great duties to perform, which lay claim to all his strength, has, in this respect, a very limited choice. The influence of climate upon the bodily functions ... extends so far, that a blunder in the choice of locality and climate is able not only to alienate a man from his actual duty, but also to withhold it from him altogether, so that he never even comes face to face with it.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

    I hope we shall give them a thorough drubbing this summer, and then change our tomahawk into a golden chain of friendship.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

    Thought is the seed of action; but action is as much its second form as thought is its first.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    Who is the happy Warrior? Who is he
    That every man in arms should wish to be?
    It is the generous spirit, who, when brought
    Among the tasks of real life, hath wrought
    Upon the plan that pleased his boyish thought:
    Whose high endeavors are an inward light
    That makes the path before him always bright:
    Who, with a natural instinct to discern
    What knowledge can perform, is diligent to learn;
    And in himself posses his own desire;
    William Wordsworth (1770–1850)
