Refuge Denied

Refuge Denied is the debut album by the band Sanctuary, released in 1987. The album initially sold 7,000 copies on vinyl and it was not released on CD until February 22, 1988. By June 2011, the album had sold over 200,000 copies.

This was the only album to feature extremely high pitched, layered vocals from vocalist Warrel Dane. It has been speculated that Dane injured himself in the making of Refuge Denied, due to the change in vocal style in his subsequent work.

It was produced by Megadeth vocalist and guitarist Dave Mustaine, who also performed the guitar solo on "White Rabbit", which is a cover version of a Jefferson Airplane song.

The song "Battle Angels" was used in the 2009 video game Brutal Legend.

Famous quotes containing the words refuge and/or denied:

God is the immemorial refuge of the incompetent, the helpless, the miserable. They find not only sanctuary in His arms, but also a kind of superiority, soothing to their macerated egos: He will set them above their betters.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

That I am not a member of any Christian Church, is true; but I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures; and I have never spoken with intentional disrespect of religion.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)
