Real Estate Bubbles in The 2000s

By 2006, several areas of the world were thought to be in a bubble state, although this contention was not without controversy. This hypothesis was based on observation of similar patterns in real estate markets of a wide variety of countries. This includes similar patterns of overvaluation and excessive borrowing based on those overvaluations.

The subprime mortgage crisis, with its accompanying impacts and effects on economies in various nations, has given some credence to the idea that these trends might have some common characteristics.

Famous quotes containing the words real, estate and/or bubbles:

    A scholar, in his Segmenta, left a note,
    As follows, “The Ruler of Reality,
    If more unreal than New Haven, is not
    A real ruler, but rules what is unreal.”
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

    Never let the estate decrease in your hands. It is only by such resolutions as that that English noblemen and English gentlemen can preserve their country. I cannot bear to see property changing hands.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)

    Oh! a private buffoon is a light-hearted loon,
    If you listen to popular rumour;
    From morning to night he’s so joyous and bright,
    And he bubbles with wit and good humour!
    Sir William Schwenck Gilbert (1836–1911)
