Reading To Kids

Reading to Kids is a charitable organization that sponsors monthly reading clubs at inner-city elementary schools with low literacy rates in Los Angeles, CA. The organization provides books and volunteers who read to the children; after each reading club the books are donated to the schools' libraries, and the children receive a reading-related prize for attending. Reading to Kids also provides training for the parents of the participating children, offering guidance on how to encourage their children to read more at home.

Famous quotes containing the words reading and/or kids:

They don’t advertise for killers in the newspaper. That was my profession. Ex-cop. Ex- blade runner. Ex-killer.
David Webb Peoples, U.S. screenwriter, and Ridley Scott. Rick Deckard, Blade Runner, reading the newspaper—his opening lines (1982)

They [creative children] ask more questions than most children. They’re usually spontaneous and enthusiastic. Their ideas are unique and occasionally strike other kids as weird. They’re independent. Not that they don’t care at all what other kids think, but they’re able to do their thing despite the fact that their peers may think it’s strange. And they have lots and lots of ideas.
    Silvia Rimm (20th century)
