Personal Life
In 1952, Stevens was married to woman wrestler Theresa Theis, who also did some work as Stevens's trainer and helped to hone his skills as a professional wrestler during the initial stage of his career. They were divorced in 1972.
He appeared in the 1974 movie The Wrestler and the 1978 Sylvester Stallone movie Paradise Alley.
In 1995, the mayors of San Francisco and Oakland jointly proclaimed April 5 "Ray Stevens Day".
On May 3, 1996, Stevens died from a heart attack while sleeping at his home in Fremont, California. He was survived by five children: Carl, Timothy and Laura from Fremont, Roy from Sacramento, California, and Kelly from Las Vegas, Nevada.
