Ravi Batra - Occupy Wall Street Movement

Occupy Wall Street Movement

In October 2011, Batra wrote an article in Truthout in support of the OWS movement, which is seen to be protesting the influence of wealthy financiers in government policy. Batra argues that legislative changes since the Reagan Presidency, with regard e.g. to taxes, benefits, mergers & acquisitions, have contributed greatly to increase the inequalities and economic problems in the U.S. He suggests the OWS movement push for their repeal.

Famous quotes containing the words occupy, wall, street and/or movement:

An immoderate fondness for dress, for pleasure, and for sway, are the passions of savages; the passions that occupy those uncivilized beings who have not yet extended the dominion of the mind, or even learned to think with the energy necessary to concatenate that abstract train of thought which produces principles.... that women from their education and the present state of civilized life, are in the same condition, cannot ... be controverted.
    Mary Wollstonecraft (1759–1797)

Something inspires the only cow of late
To make no more of a wall than an open gate,
And think no more of wall-builders than fools.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

Sports are positively essential. It is healthy to engage in sports, they are beautiful and liberal, liberal in the sense that nothing serves quite as well to integrate social classes, etc., than street or public games.
    Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904)

It is certainly safe, in view of the movement to the right of intellectuals and political thinkers, to pronounce the brain death of socialism.
    Norman Tebbit (b. 1931)
