Ravensworth is in the civil parish of Kirkby (sometimes Kirby) Ravensworth. The parish encompasses an area of 15,000 acres, including Ravensworth itself, as well as the nearby settlements of Dalton, Gayles, Kirby Hill, New Forest, Newsham and Whashton; New Forest contains the hamlets of Helwith, Hallgate and Casey Green. It is situated within the "huge" ward or wapentake of Gilling West. It is in the local government district of Richmondshire, within the county of North Yorkshire. William Hague, who represents the Richmond (Yorks) UK Parliamentary constituency, is currently the MP. It is situated within the Yorkshire and the Humber European Parliament constituency. In the Anglican church it is within the deanery of Richmond, the archdeaconry of Richmond and the diocese of Ripon and Leeds.
