Rapid Strep Test - Target Disease

Target Disease

Streptococcal pharyngitis is a common infection caused by the Streptococcus pyogenes bacterium, also known as group A Streptococcus or beta-hemolytic Streptococcus. It is generally treated aggressively because of the potential serious complications of any group A streptococcal infection. In order to treat pharyngitis adequately it is helpful to identify the infection, but none of the symptoms are specific to streptococcal pharyngitis; they can also be caused by other diseases, so testing is often used.

Famous quotes containing the words target and/or disease:

Well gentlemen, this is it. This is what we’ve been waiting for. Tonight your target is Tokyo. And you’re gonna play ‘em the Star Spangled Banner with two-ton bombs. All you’ve got to do is to remember what you’ve learned and follow your squadron leaders. They’ll get you in, and they’ll get you out. Any questions? All right that’s all. Good luck to you. Give ‘em hell.
    Dudley Nichols (1895–1960)

The peace loving nations must make a concerted effort in opposition to those violations of treaties and those ignorings of humane instincts which today are creating a state of international anarchy and instability from which there is no escape through mere isolation or neutrality.... When an epidemic of physical disease starts to spread, the community approves and joins in a quarantine of the patients in order to protect the health of the community against the spread of the disease.
    Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945)
