Randy Weaver - Military Training

Military Training

When the Vietnam War began to escalate, Weaver dropped out of community college and joined the United States Army in October 1968. He excelled in recruit training. Weaver was promoted to the rank of sergeant following his training.

Weaver was stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. As Weaver waited for deployment to Vietnam, his future wife, Vicki Jordison, was finishing her college studies, earning a two-year degree in business and getting a job at the United Way of America.

In 1970, Weaver secured a temporary leave from Fort Bragg and returned to his hometown for a visit. He had already decided to finish his duties with the Army and had told his family so. He reunited with Jordison shortly thereafter.

Famous quotes containing the words military and/or training:

War both needs and generates certain virtues; not the highest, but what may be called the preliminary virtues, as valour, veracity, the spirit of obedience, the habit of discipline. Any of these, and of others like them, when possessed by a nation, and no matter how generated, will give them a military advantage, and make them more likely to stay in the race of nations.
    Walter Bagehot (1826–1877)

... the time will come when no servant will be hired without a diploma from some training school, and a girl will as much expect to fit herself for house-maid or cook, as for dressmaker or any trade.
    Lydia Hoyt Farmer (1842–1903)
