RAN Remote Area Nurse (TV Series)
RAN (Remote Area Nurse) is an Australian television program (drama series), filmed entirely on Masig Island (Yorke Island) in the tropical Torres Strait north of the Cape York Peninsula, the northernmost part of Australia (State of Queensland), and the border with Papua New Guinea.
This is an important series to Torres Strait Islanders, but also to the predominantly Anglo Australian community as it highlights the difference between Islanders and mainland Indigenous Australians and the interactions between Islander and Anglo culture. Islander actors and extras are extensively used.
The series was released on DVD on 20 February 2006.

Famous quotes containing the words ran, remote, area and/or nurse:
“I have led her home, my love, my only friend.
There is none like her, none.
And never yet so warmly ran my blood
And sweetly, on and on
Calming itself to the long-wished-for end,
Full to the banks, close on the promised good.”
—Alfred Tennyson (18091892)
“I have no expectation that any man will read history aright who thinks that what has been done in a remote age, by men whose names have resounded far, has any deeper sense than what he is doing to-day.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“... nothing is more human than substituting the quantity of words and actions for their character. But using imprecise words is very similar to using lots of words, for the more imprecise a word is, the greater the area it covers.”
—Robert Musil (18801942)
“Some are reputed sick and some are not. It often happens that the sicker man is the nurse to the sounder.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
