Rampart Ties To Death Row Records

The Rampart Corruption Task Force investigators discovered that hip-hop mogul Suge Knight, owner of Death Row Records, had several of the corrupt Rampart officers on his payroll, including Kevin Gaines, Nino Durden, Rafael PĂ©rez, and David Mack. Knight was hiring off-duty Rampart police to work for Death Row as security guards for substantial amounts of money. For instance, after Gaines' shooting, investigators discovered Gaines drove a Mercedes, wore designer suits, and found a receipt in his apartment for a $952 restaurant tab at the Los Angeles hangout, Monty's Steakhouse.

Famous quotes containing the words ties, death, row and/or records:

The bond between a man and his profession is similar to that which ties him to his country; it is just as complex, often ambivalent, and in general it is understood completely only when it is broken: by exile or emigration in the case of one’s country, by retirement in the case of a trade or profession.
    Primo Levi (1919–1987)

One is apt to be discouraged by the frequency with which Mr. Hardy has persuaded himself that a macabre subject is a poem in itself; that, if there be enough of death and the tomb in one’s theme, it needs no translation into art, the bold statement of it being sufficient.
    Rebecca West (1892–1983)

The church is a sort of hospital for men’s souls, and as full of quackery as the hospital for their bodies. Those who are taken into it live like pensioners in their Retreat or Sailor’s Snug Harbor, where you may see a row of religious cripples sitting outside in sunny weather.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Better the rudest work that tells a story or records a fact, than the richest without meaning.
    John Ruskin (1819–1900)
