Rajan-Nagendra - Childhood

Childhood

Their father Rajappa was a musician himself, well versed in playing harmonium and the flute. He was a playing artiste for the silent movies. But once the talkie movies came he got busy with his other music performances. This musical atmosphere had a profound effect on the two young minds. Within a short time, each of them attained proficiency in playing a different instrument – Rajan in violin and Nagendra in Jal tarang. Rajan used to listen to musical performances of eminent musicians at Choudayya Ramamandira in Mysore and hence got the opportunity to listen to music performances by hindusthani, karnatik and western music in the Mysore palace. Later on Rajan came to Bangalore for his further educational studies.

Famous quotes containing the word childhood:

Although good early childhood programs can benefit all children, they are not a quick fix for all of society’s ills—from crime in the streets to adolescent pregnancy, from school failure to unemployment. We must emphasize that good quality early childhood programs can help change the social and educational outcomes for many children, but they are not a panacea; they cannot ameliorate the effects of all harmful social and psychological environments.
    Barbara Bowman (20th century)

Ah happy hills! ah pleasing shade!
    Ah fields beloved in vain!
Where once my careless childhood stray’d,
    Thomas Gray (1716–1771)

... a country encapsulates our childhood and those lanes, byres, fields, flowers, insects, suns, moons and stars are forever reoccurring.
    Edna O’Brien (b. c. 1932)
