Rail Transport in Costa Rica

Rail transport in Costa Rica is under the ownership of Incofer (Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles) and utilizes 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) narrow gauge railways. The train service operates primarily on the Atlantic Ocean side of the country and is perceived by visitors to the country as a limited transport option, in comparison to other forms.

Rail services are also provided by private companies in Costa Rica. AmericaTravel organizes occasional weekend tourist trains (The Tico Train Tour) from San José to Caldera, as well as freight services between the Port of Limón and the plantation fields of Limón Province. A replica steam train service is also offered in Monteverde, where passengers are transported through locations such as Lake Arenal and the Arenal National Park.

Famous quotes containing the words rail and/or transport:

Old man, it’s four flights up and for what?
Your room is hardly any bigger than your bed.
Puffing as you climb, you are a brown woodcut
stooped over the thin rail and the wornout tread.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

One may disavow and disclaim vices that surprise us, and whereto our passions transport us; but those which by long habits are rooted in a strong and ... powerful will are not subject to contradiction. Repentance is but a denying of our will, and an opposition of our fantasies.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)
