Rail Corporation New South Wales

Rail Corporation New South Wales (RailCorp) is a Government of New South Wales agency with responsibility for the administration, operation and maintenance of the Sydney suburban and interurban CityRail network. RailCorp is also responsible for operating rural passenger services, under the CountryLink brand, and provides commercial and government freight operators with access to the Sydney metropolitan area rail network.

In January 2004, after much criticism and public perceptions of blame shifting between units of the State Rail Authority for operational failings, RailCorp was formed taking over the passenger train operations of CityRail and CountryLink, and responsibility for maintaining the greater metropolitan network from the Rail Infrastructure Corporation.

The current Chief Executive Officer of RailCorp is Rob Mason, appointed in 2008 to replace the inaugural Chief Executive, Vince Graham. Initially governed by a Board of Directors, changes to the Transport Administration Act, 1988 (NSW) resulted in abolition of the Board effective 30 June 2010; making the Corporation an agency under Transport NSW. RailCorp reports to the Minister for Transport, presently Gladys Berejiklian. In November 2011 RailCorp became part of Transport for New South Wales.

Famous quotes containing the words rail, corporation, south and/or wales:

In my conscience I believe the baggage loves me, for she never speaks well of me herself, nor suffers any body else to rail at me.
    William Congreve (1670–1729)

It is truly enough said that a corporation has no conscience; but a corporation of conscientious men is a corporation with a conscience.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Whenever I’m asked why Southern writers particularly have a penchant for writing about freaks, I say it is because we are still able to recognize one. To be able to recognize a freak, you have to have some conception of the whole man, and in the South the general conception of man is still, in the main, theological.
    Flannery O’Connor (1925–1964)

I just come and talk to the plants, really—very important to talk to them, they respond I find.
Charles, Prince Of Wales (b. 1948)
